Legislature Passes More Funding For Law Enforcement, Helene Recovery, and More

    The North Carolina House passed another “mini budget” this week, the third since the new fiscal year began in July.

    Some of the funding included in the third mini budget:

    • $2.1 million to the State Highway Patrol for the VIPER network
    • $2 million for equipment for the State Bureau of Investigation
    • $7.2 million to fund IT improvements for the Court System
    • $12 million to rebuild and reinforce broadband fiber networks impacted by Hurricane Helene
    • $4.3 million to the Department of State Treasurer to upgrade and maintain the state’s banking system
    • Expands the bridge loan program offered to qualifying businesses impacted by Hurricane Helene
    • $7 million for dry docking and ferry maintenance. This is in addition to the $51 million for construction of a dock and a road at a major business site in Hertford County passed in September

    The bill received Gov. Stein’s signature yesterday.
