The North Carolina House overrode four vetoes yesterday, bringing the total number of successful overrides in the House this biennium to thirteen, with twelve vetoes being overridden in both the House and Senate so far.
The four overrides this week:
House Bill 171 – Equality in State Agencies/Prohibition on DEI
Senate Bill 153: North Carolina Border Protection Act
Senate Bill 227: Eliminating “DEI” in Public Education
Senate Bill 558: Eliminating “DEI” in Public Higher Ed
Three of the four bills had previously been overridden in the Senate, and are now law. House Bill 171 now goes to the Senate where it awaits further action.
Following the successful overrides, Speaker Destin Hall shared on X, “Tax-payer funded DEI is DONE in NC. The House just overrode three of [Gov. Josh Stein’s] vetoes to stop divisive and discriminatory DEI programs in our state government and public schools. More big wins for fairness and common sense.”
